Moose River Restoration Project
Moose River Restoration Project
In the summer of 2009, CARP began efforts to restore ecosystem functions to the Moose River, including establishing fish passage past the Clementsport Dam. With support the Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), CARP undertook a feasibility study on the Clementsport dam and determined that removing the dam and restoring the habitat was the most ecological and economically feasible option. CARP removed the dam and conducted important restoration work in September 2011. We will continue to monitor changes to the river’s morphology as well as fish species migration until the fall of 2013. The dam removal was funded by the Gulf of Maine Council on the Environment, NSLC Adopt a Stream, Nova Scotia Environment, Nova Scotia Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal, Atlantic Salmon Conservation Foundation and the RBC Blue Water Leadership Grant

Annapolis River Guardians
Annapolis River Guardians
CARP's longest running program! The Annapolis River Guardians are the volunteers that make this water quality monitoring program work. They are members of the communities within the Annapolis River watershed who are interested in the quality of their environment.

Broken Brooks
Broken Brooks
Aquatic Connectivity is an important factor for fish habitat as well as other ecological needs. In 2007 CARP initiated the Broken Brooks project to analyze water crossings (e.g. culverts, bridges, dams) for fish passage. It is the hope for this project that all of the culverts in the Annapolis River watershed will be assessed, therefore giving a better picture of the overall aquatic connectivity within the watershed and prioritizing sites that require remedial work. Aquatic connectivity assessments are quickly becoming an ongoing project of CARP's.

Soft-Shell Clam Integrated Resource Management
Soft-Shell Clam Integrated Resource Management
CARP has been working with the clam harvesting associations, various levels of government and nongovernmental organizations and the local economic development agency to ensure the sustainable and successful management of the clam-flats and address circumstances and factors that cause beach closures and threaten the industry. In 2011 CARP will be working with the Annapolis Digby Economic Development Agency (ADEDA) to conduct public consultations in order to start to develop a Integrated Management Plan for the soft-shell clam industry.

EnerGuide for Homes Program
EnerGuide for Homes Program
Efficiency Nova Scotia (the provincial agency delivering the program) continues to accept new entrants into the EnerGuide for Existing Houses Program. CARP coordinates these audits under Clean Nova Scotia's licence in the south-western region of NS.

Environmental Home Assessment Program
Environmental Home Assessment Program
The Environmental Home Assessment Program is a free program designed to help rural homeowners protect their health and the environment by providing them with the information and tools they need to properly maintain their septic systems, water wells, and home heating oil tanks.
