Moose River Restoration Project
Moose River Restoration Project
In the summer of 2009, Clean Annapolis River Project began efforts to restore ecosystem functions to the Moose River, including establishing fish passage past the Clementsport Dam. With support the Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), CARP is currently undertaking a feasibility study on the Clementsport dam.

The Annapolis Rain Gardens Project
The Annapolis Rain Gardens Project
The Annapolis Rain Gardens Project (Managing Water Resources in a Climate Changed World: An Annapolis Pilot Project) focused on demonstrating creative storm and rainwater runoff management techniques. One of the goals of this project was to improve the quality of storm water before it enters other watercourses.

Annapolis Royal Energy Conservation Pilot Project
Annapolis Royal Energy Conservation Pilot Project
This is a communuity-based energy conservation plan. CARP assessed the energy use and resultant carbon dioxide emissions of the Town of Annapolis Royal. This is a way to identify areas where energy can be conserved. This project is a model by which other communities can base energy conservation projects around.

Monsters in the Marsh
Monsters in the Marsh
Glossy Buckthorn (Rhamnus frangula) is an invasive deciduous tree that was introduced from Europe. It has established itself in the Annapolis Royal Marsh and French Basin Trail. As an invasive species it is reducing biodiversity by out-competing native plants. Monsters in the Marsh is a project that will try to reduce the presence of Glossy Buckthorn by removing it and replanting with natives.

The Soft-Shell Clam
The Soft-Shell Clam
The Clean Annapolis River Project has been working with the clam harvesting associations, various levels of government and nongovernmental organizations to ensure the sustainable and successful management of the clam-flats and address circumstances and factors that cause beach closures and threaten the industry.

EnerGuide for Houses
EnerGuide for Houses
EnerGuide is a joint federal-provincial government program to assess homes for energy efficiency. There is up to $6,500 available in government rebates to help cover the retrofitting costs. We are the authorized deliverers for South-western Nova Scotia.

Integrated Watershed Management
Integrated Watershed Management
Over the past few years, CARP has observed a number of issues which we believe are symptoms that water resources are not being well managed on a watershed scale (e.g. eutrophication, aquatic species at risk, groundwater contamination, diminishing water supplies for agriculture and municipal uses). These issues would seem to indicate that an integrated approach may be needed to address these and future challenges.

Annapolis River Guardians
Annapolis River Guardians
CARP's longest running program! The Annapolis River Guardians are the volunteers that make this water quality monitoring program work. They are members of the communities within the Annapolis River watershed who are interested in the quality of their environment.

Community Monitoring - Invasive Fish Species
Community Monitoring - Invasive Fish Species
The introduction of non-native species into aquatic habitats threatens native species within our province. CARP is working with the Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute to educate people at fishing derbies, exhibitions, and at popular fishing spots with posters, signs, and presentations to help prevent the introductive of invasive fish in the Mersey and Annapolis watersheds.

Environmental Home Assessment Program
Environmental Home Assessment Program
The Environmental Home Assessment Program is a free program designed to help rural homeowners protect their health and the environment by providing them with the information and tools they need to properly maintain their septic systems, water wells, and home heating oil tanks.

Invasive Alien Plants in the Annapolis Valley
Invasive Alien Plants in the Annapolis Valley
Little work on invasive alien terrestrial plants had previously been conducted in this area, so in 2006, CARP saw an opportunity to conduct research on local problematic plant species, and use this knowledge to engage local communities. The goal of this work was to minimize the risk and impact of invasive alien plants on the human and natural environments of the Annapolis Valley, and in doing so, contribute to the goals of Canada's national invasive species strategy.

Annapolis Watershed Salt Marsh Evaluation
Annapolis Watershed Salt Marsh Evaluation
The goal of this 2005 project was to identify and evaluate existing tidal barriers to salt marshes in and around the Annapolis Basin, and to identify potential salt marsh restoration sites. This work is currently being built upon with a restoration feasibility study for the French Basin Marsh.

Riparian Habitat Stewardship
Riparian Habitat Stewardship
In 2003, CARP's Comprehensive Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) identified establishment of riparian buffer zones on livestock grazing lands as one of the priorities for environmental restoration and pollution prevention activities in the Annapolis River watershed. CARP works with landowners to improve riparian habitat on an ongoing, annual basis.
