Environmental Home Assessment Program
What is the Environmental Home Assessment Program (EHAP)?

EHAP is a free and confidential program designed to help rural homeowners protect their health and the environment by providing them with the information and tools they need to properly maintain their septic systems, water wells, and home heating oil tanks.

Old well house
Who can participate?

Homeowners and non-profit organizations that have both a well and septic system can participate in the program. Clean Annapolis River Project is responsible for delivery of the program in the western region of the province. See the bottom of this page for contact information.

What is involved in an Environmental Home Assessment?

An Environmental Home Assessment involves a home visit with an assessor who will spend time with you reviewing the condition of your septic system, well and oil tank, as well as maintenance practices and household habits that can impact the function and lifespan of these systems. Recommendations are passed on to the homeowner through the process that can protect their health, minimize environmental impacts, and save the homeowner money.

Well Maintained Oil Tank
What are the benefits of having an Environmental Home Assessment?
  • Knowledge about home septic, well and oil tank systems
  • A sample of a septic system friendly cleaning product
  • $50.00 rebate toward a septic system pump-out is available to each participant
  • Potential access to a septic system repair grant of up to $3,000 (1/3 of cost with a maximum of $3000)
In order to apply for the septic repair grant, the septic system must be malfunctioning, and the net annual income of the participating household must be below $50,000.00 per year. However, everyone is eligible for the pump-out rebate.
