The French Basin Trail - Guestbook
My wife took this picture of me for a change.
A visitor should not forget their binoculars as I did.
It was nice to see the young people involved in keeping the trail open and safe, I noticed the beaver were helping on the North side.
Spring is definately in the air.
Is there a way I can send several photos ?
We loved the senetry of the trail. April 2010
Today 18 Aug 2010 was our first walk around the trail as we are from Smiths Cove and it was wonderful. It won't be our last. The May fly hatch was evident and the Tree Swallows were claiming the best nesting box as we walked by and the muskrat swam by. One canada goose came ashore and fed at our feet. Next time I will have my binoculars.
It was also nice to see the 4 young people cutting rose thorns from along the trail.
Attached are a few pictures I took today for everyone to enjoy.
The ice on the marsh is about half gone, with all the sun and warm temps of the past week. The buffleheads, black ducks, mallards -- and seagulls! -- are back in the open water. I saw my first red-winged blackbird (male) yesterday, a sure sign of spring.

What I'd never seen before until this past winter, is a number of muskrats eating at their 'push-ups' (holes they make in the ice where they 'push up' clumps of cattail roots). This fellow was busily chewing away at his/her hole on February 27th.
