Gulf of Maine Watershed
The Gulf of Maine is a uniquely diverse environment. Over 2,000 plant and animal species inhabit the water and coasts of the Gulf. This is a result of the ocean currents, which regulate water temperature and bring nutrients to the Gulf.

Two countries, Canada and the United States, border the Gulf of Maine: the states Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine and provinces New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. The Gulf of Maine covers over 90,000 km2 of ocean and has 12,000 km2 of coastline.

Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment

The Gulf of Maine Council on the Environment is a Canadian-US Partnership between government and non-government organizations in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Its mission "is to maintain and enhance environmental quality in the Gulf of Maine to allow for sustainable resource use by existing and future generations."
