Public Meeting: Clementsport Dam Feasibility Study

April 13th, 2010

Thursday, April 29th, 2010
Clementsport Legion Hall, 7:00 PM

The Clean Annapolis River Project (CARP) has retained a consultant team to conduct a feasibility study for the restoration of native river ecosystems and fish passage in the vicinity of the Clementsport Dam and Picnic Park. A key component of the feasibility study is to obtain public input concerning available restoration options for the Project. To this end, the consultant team will hold a public meeting to present the status of the ongoing study and to obtain public comment on the Project and options for restoration.

The purpose of the feasibility study is to evaluate the various options for restoration of the native river ecosystems within the vicinity of the Clementsport Dam. Options include repair of the dam and fish ladder, dam replacement, dam removal to restore free passage of fish, and no action. The ultimate goal of the feasibility study is to identify a “preferred option” based on a variety of engineering, ecological and community criteria.

The purpose of the meeting on April 29th will be to present an overview of work completed to date and to present the restoration options being considered for the dam and its associated river ecosystem. The goal of this meeting will be to record public comments, concerns and suggestions pertaining to restoration options for inclusion in the options evaluation phase of the Project. The CARP and consultant team will incorporate feedback from this public meeting into the final conceptual design report for the Clementsport Dam Project.

This will be the first of two public meetings to be conducted in support of this Project. A second meeting will take place once a preferred restoration option has been established.

The April 29th meeting will be held on from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at the Clementsport Legion Hall. We encourage attendance of this meeting, as the input gathered from public and local stakeholders will play a key role in the completion of the feasibility study and in the future development of the Clementsport Dam and Picnic Park.
