Environmental Education
Ensuring the protection of the Annapolis Watershed depends upon the knowledge, active participation, and concern of its community members. By teaching youth to appreciate the natural world and to be aware of environmental issues, environmental education encourages children to become these concerned and knowledgeable environmental stewards of the future.

Exploring the Annapolis Royal Marsh
Clean Annapolis River Project (CARP) is pleased to offer a variety of educational resources available for loan to educators, youth leaders, and other interested individuals within the Annapolis Watershed. These resources are located in CARP's environmental resource centre, and include teaching resource kits, activity ideas, lesson plans, and reference guides- all relating to a variety of environmental topics. We believe that appreciation and respect for nature is the key to a successful environmental studies program, and that students learn through doing. We encourage educators to empower their students to create positive change in their communities.

The Annapolis Watershed Elementary Education Environmental Studies Kit is a package full of ready-to-do lessons and activities, teaching materials, supplies, equipment, CDs, videos, games and children's books, all packaged together in a ready-to-travel storage container. Some of the contents include:
  • "Don't Treat Soil Like Dirt" teaching kit (Ontario Federation of Naturalists): a super resource that teaches about the roles of soils in various natural ecosystems;
  • Children's Literature collection: a series of quality books for children carefully chosen for their environmental message and beautiful illustrations;
  • Everything you need to implement a special wetland study and fieldtrip with students: lesson plans and activity ideas, magnifying glasses, insect identification charts, insect viewers, basins, nets.;
  • A variety of teaching guidebooks for a vast array of environmental and nature topics; Much more!!
The kit is used by CARP staff to help deliver their frequent presentations to watershed schools, but it is also available to borrow! Please contact CARP to both request a presentation for your school or to book the environmental studies kit.

Exploring the Annapolis Royal Marsh
Our ecological monitoring supplies and equipment for young adults are a great medium through which to teach middle and high school students about local environmental issues. Monitoring programs are a super way of showing students the connections between human activity and environmental health, and in so doing, empowering students as environmental stewards in the community.

Looking for a fun and educational lesson or project to do with youth? Our environmental studies binders are full of lesson plans that meet grade level science curriculum outcomes. Feel free to contact us to check out our lesson plans, or to arrange for a staff member to visit with your class or group. We often "take the show on the road", delivering enjoyable and educational presentations to community organizations, schools, and camps.

All educational resources are available to borrow from our Environmental Resource Centre in Annapolis Royal.

Please contact the CARP office for more information or to book a resource.
