Water Monitoring in Atlantic Canada

Community-based water quality monitoring
In the autumn of 2003, Clean Annapolis River Project undertook a survey of community-based water quality monitoring programs in Atlantic Canada. The purpose of this was to raise awareness of the types and extent of activities currently underway. It is hoped that this will provide a basis for the improved networking between these groups, Government, and other agencies.

The organizations targeted for the survey included governmental bodies using volunteers and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) using paid staff or volunteers to collect water quality samples.

The information gathered by this survey is available on a searchable on-line database at Stewardship Canada.

The Citizen Science website is an on-line space for individuals interested and involved in community based environmental monitoring. Its database contains monitoring initiatives from across Canada.
